Amazing historical research into the dance between science and the paranormal. There is an astonishing degree of credible evidence, even peer reviewed, but still not enough. For some. This book is challenging many of my ideas about history’s great scientists and philosophers like Kant and Einstein who entertained occult leanings, in private for fear of ridicule.

A comprehensive and highly readable history. Light hearted, yet meticulously researched. I just can’t put it down!

As a source of research this book is useful. DK know how to make a book exciting to read by including lush illustrations and informative sidebars. This will help my novel enormously.

There are invaluable insights casually raised that are changing my understanding of key Buddhist teachings. Co-arising of all phenomena including self being just one.

Short of having a train and a dystopian world, this is about as YA as it gets. It practically reeks of liberally applied deodorant. There are about four to five different emotions in each page which is what I recall adolescence being. But it’s fascinating, like walking past a house with open windows and peeking in. The characters are so different I can’t see how the author will bring them together yet

This book, like many Mahamudra texts, ask questions that should be asked rather than give answers. It helps the practitioner find ways to ask the questions themselves.

This dense, esoteric collection will take years of study and reflection. I learned an enormous amount of clarifying information on the introduction which dispels my previously held views..

The Tempest but even more cruel if this is possible.

I very much enjoyed this detailed if flawed history of magic. The author is clearly an expert in some areas and has needed to rely on other people's archaeological evidence to substantiate his claims. His lack of familiarity with some culture's magic shows. That said a fine overview and an impressive contribution to a growing field.

What impresses me about this book is the rich world-building that must be based on real-world research. The main character is not very likeable but I feel that his education is soon to be quite shocking. He is so arrogant! There's a lot he needs to learn about his magic and about serving others.

Though heavy with archaeological information and summaries of ancient civilisations, there is enough about magic to keep you fascinated. Who knew the extent of magical practices!?

We all experience having a mind, but where is it exactly? We think in our brains but is it? This book helps you ask very clear questions to help you explore the inner world.

I can't tell how many times I've read this story but even this new translation helps me find new things to enjoy. The gruesomeness of Grendel's actions are particularly evocative and frightening. Also, this translation emphasises the Christian aspects of the culture more than others.

The main character Tuor has enjoyed his time in the wilderness but it is not for long. The God of the Waters Ulmo arrives and says Tuor is destined for greatness or to fail.

It is like soaking in a warm bath returning to Middle Earth. It is like coming home to somewhere more truly real than this real world.
