I'm not far into it yet. The Second Night. Kind of regretting starting this. Pardon my lack of empathy, but this is just pathetic. I truly understand and have empathy for those who struggle socially - especially with the opposite sex - but he's also rude! And yes, yes, this is a different time and a different culture, but still! He may as well simply say, "Shut up, I'm talking."

I recently heard that someone famous considers The Martian a comedy. I had only watched the movie, but I could see how it could be interpreted as such.

Chapter 6 is clear evidence this book is intended as a comedy.

I'm serious. But even if it *weren't* a genuine comedy, the entire premise is pretty dark, so levity is a good strategy to keep the reader from feeling too heavy to continue reading.
