I'm not far into it yet. The Second Night. Kind of regretting starting this. Pardon my lack of empathy, but this is just pathetic. I truly understand and have empathy for those who struggle socially - especially with the opposite sex - but he's also rude! And yes, yes, this is a different time and a different culture, but still! He may as well simply say, "Shut up, I'm talking."

I think I’d agree with you on not caring for this character. Sure, different time, different culture, but we can only extend so much sympathy. I remember reading Catcher in the Rye in 10th grade, probably the perfect age to relate to Caufield. I couldn’t though. Even then, I was like “I don’t care if everyone around you is a ‘phony’. You, Holden, are just a turd.”
