3rd year in a row of visiting County Kerry as a buddy read with my spouse.

Today is August 28th 2026, officially 3 days after we lost Dolly Parton. Honestly just too good for this world. But to say I wasn’t simply gobsmacked to read a reference to Dolly in this book today. I find that so cosmically fascinating. Made me happy. Fun little tidbit about this, so far, very interesting novel.

Really loving the pace, the main character, and the plot line. Also, love hearing the Michigan specific and year specific things. Helps to bring me into this story. So good so far.

I’m really enjoying this one. So far my favorite Karen Slaughter novel. I’m completely encapsulated in this thriller. And wow is it fucked up. Love it. I listen to this audiobook on my drive to and from work and I absolutely love having my windows down and stop lights and just knowing that other people can hear it. Hilarious

I am in love with this book.

Audiobook #1 2021

I want to sing praises for as far as my voice will carry and then some. I’ve cried tears a pride and joy, and also cried from laughter. So far, this might be my favorite of this year. I can’t wait to finish it but I never want it to end. And oddly I think this story will never end. I’ll carry it to every island my life takes me to.

Oh my dear lord this book has me enthralled in its majestic beauty. I need to savor these last few pages. I feel a “for sure” book hangover coming on after this. It’s haunting in the way that it will continuously bring a smile to your face at random moments, and like the great author Alice Edevane once said, “I couldn’t have plotted it better”.

Well my theory was correct in a sense, but it was revealed shortly after my guess. Damnit I was sure I was way ahead of the game. Kate Morton lead me to that assumption on purpose so that I could feel duped. And I do. I feel duped. But I’m having fun reading this book.

And didn’t say anything because she thought she was in love with him. She buried the manuscript and has felt guilty all these years. Wen BM left for a different job, it lined up for her that he took him. But that wasn’t what happened. She basically just dreamt it into reality for herself.
