Shanyn is finished with The Life We Bury (Joe Talbert, #1; Detective Max Rupert, #1)
I have to share. This book has grabbed my attention. The voice of the mc is clear. The story is interesting and the rising action is slow and steady. Super impressed.

Funny, irreverent, precious. Such a wonderful juxtaposition between youth and aging. I laugh out loud so much as I read this—both characters are realized fully within themselves—good craft writing. The mystery is also a nice sideline but not terribly complicated. Don’t come for the mystery. Come for the characters. All of them make it worthwhile.

Progress Paradox. “Such considerations demanded nuanced thought and consideration and discussion which they rarely got” In itching to read his work. I’m also thinking about how this applies to poor neighborhoods.

Things that trouble me:
The killing and death of the sled dogs. The treatment of them as if they’re the lowest priority when they’re really the highest.
The transport of animals to zoos. I hate that. Hate it. I’ve always disliked zoos. The only kind of place I mind are places that take care of endangered animals in habitats that are very similar to their own in space and habitat.

I am riveted by Freuchen. His life, ideology, and passion for adventure has me captivated. The detail on daily life, the landscape, and the culture is beautiful. The historical references, the famous names—I could go on. I’m really enjoying this book and have only one objection. I’ve got chores and writing of my own to work on and I CAN’T put this book down.

The humor. I’m so damn happy. Laughter, what is this? Tongue in cheek. Intelligent discourse.
If you aren’t convinced then I’m sorry for you and feel as if you deserve a talking to by Cutter. (If you start reading the book you’ll understand).

His characters are interesting and the story beckons one like a light in the distance when you are lost on a cold dark trail in the forest.
Have you stopped reading and ordered yet?
No?

What can I say that would make you stop what you are doing, reading, thinking and buy this book immediately?
Let me try. From the first, Mr. o’donnell’s writing is luscious. Evocative, fashioned from wit and beauty, his sentences not only sing but create tension and give clarity.
Shall I go on?

I’m in love with Nathaniel. No. I’m in love with Alma. Still not quite right. I’m in love with their marriage. This book is AMAZING! The lingo—wow. It is very obvious how much work Robinette-Kowal put into this novel. It is excellent and riveting and...I’ve got to get back to the book.

A book with heft, it’s density promising a long read. Black’s words unwrap Paris and the plot with expertise. ❤️

I understand moral injury—the core of me responded to this definition as if it was settling into a favorite chair. “...learning to accept the things you know are wrong.” This IS what it is like to live on the streets.

I put off reading this one because I knew it would hurt my heart to read it. Already, tears have started to form in my chest, tightening my airway. And I’ve only just begun this journey...
