Was trying to decide if this book is really good, or if I really need to go to grief therapy, and I think I can safely report that the answer is "both" -- absolutely savoring this

I guess I am reading the 2015 (?) edition, where Scruton apparently (according to his preface) doesn't touch on Laing, which is unfortunate because I was most interested in reading a strong critique of Laing (who I generally liked when I read him years ago)! Still interested to see his critiques of other theorists

What totally blows is that I'm going to finish this book (probably in a day) and will never get to read it for the first time again

Was thinking about the bizarre "religion" (not even sure what you'd call it!) my mom follows, opened this book and immediately read Singal's deep dive into it (New Thought). Weird! But serendipitous; I hardly ever meet anyone who is familiar with this lol

man, this author has some beef with every humanities scholar alive
