Okay so right now it’s looking like there’s hints being dropped that it was the dad. While that would be really entertaining, I also hope not bc it’s pg 49 and I already have been given reasonable cause to believe so, which I think would be careless writing. But I would love to hear how he got there, if so. Like??😭😂😂maybe cheating scandal w Mrs Shears and dead wife???

Also this book has way too many pop culture references and Bridget is the most cardboard cutout of a character maybe ever. You're trying to make her shamelessly real and relatable but it's not working, it's just flat and corny

Colleen…..you cannot have your characters be completely shitty and then try to gaslight us into believing they’re still amazing people by having the characters around them process their actions in an incredibly unrealistically benevolent way. Sydney is not 'understanding' and Maggie defending the nature of how Ridge got with her doesn't change the fact that it was CHEATING. Like hello?? We DID read the book...

“When I was little, I wanted to grow up and become a mascot — so I’d have the freedom to dance, without being seen.”

I love love love this line and everything that preceded it. She does such a good job at illustrating that she was the kind of person who did not know how to take up space…never even dared to dream of it

Okay, wow. I just read over 150 pages in one burst and was completely immersed. I have already cried at least 3 times and stopped to make my friend read one of the pages. This book. It’s format. The fragmented prose. The therapy notes. This is beyond incredible and I’m so in awe of Sara’s talent and capacity to make me feel. Stunning

I’m so intrigued as to how a book like this ends up being powered through by enough people to receive acclaim. Should’ve known when I saw Sally Rooney’s cover review that it would be v atypical. I definitely don’t get it yet. But it’s becoming easier to read + every now and then a section provokes some sort of thought, even if I can’t quite place what. Hopeful, sceptical and curious ab where this will go
