I'm quite enjoying this so far!

Chapter 3 is one in which I would have become irretrievably lost without the chapter heading about "Stencil, a quick change artist, who does 8 impersonations." My God.

Barely 40 pages in, far more instances of passive voice have appeared than I'd prefer to encounter in a whole book.

One aspect of this book that is seriously impressing me so far is how Morrison majestically employs descriptions of the natural world to illustrate characters' mindsets.

Banks makes his books so rewarding to read. Every little detail he mentions comes back sooner or later in the story in some way that's critical to the plot, but you're always kept guessing!

Am I the only one who, every single hardcover he sees, has to look at the publisher's page to check if it's a first printing? Be it a friend's copy or at a bookstore, I can't resist.

A well characterized protagonist, but no story... very similar to Remains of the Day... we’ll see how things change in the last 50 pages
