Keeping a running list of phrases I didn’t expect to encounter in a Cormac McCarthy book:
- “Get ye a tater.”
- “the crimes of the moonlight melonmounter”
- “a convicted pervert of a botanical bent”

"You've got this funny way of talking. Don't tell me you're trying to imitate that boy in Catcher in the Rye?"

I'm so bored of coming-of-age novels featuring male protagonists who are in no way interesting or thoughtful, but who the female characters (all of whom invariably want to sleep with him) insist are special.
