I don’t understand why having a single currency was such a big deal? I don’t get it? Why were they still talking about it more than 20 years later?

This book is very Americanised I have no idea how they’ve even achieved this in a book about the British Empire. Why are so many books written by American authors written with the assumption that the readers are also American. Very sad
