So much of this book rings painfully true- especially for those born into poverty and then a bad thing happens. The feeling of utter helplessness- you are old enough to know whats going on, and yet far too young to do anything about it when the adults in your life let you down, fail to take care of you. Especially appreciated the history lesson- the red necks and how the poverty was intentional.

Oh, I am loving this book- a retelling of Cinderella from the step mothers perspective. In this story, she isn’t cruel, she is a mother doing what she must for the survival of her daughters. When her first husband dies, and his family plans to marry off her daughters to men in a distant land- ages 8 and 10, she plots to remarry herself, to keep her daughters with her. We would all do the same.

Gawwwd the pacing of this book is slow, and I’m having trouble keeping track of the stuffed shirts who are suspects.

Hmm- so a story of mom with Postpartum depression...but wait her toddler child bites her.. and wont let go. Oh maybe something else is going on here.

Wakes in childhood home- no idea how she got there. Sees message- its all a lie.
Finally, this is getting interesting.

Ok, this is weird. Girl wakes up on a train platform of her childhood home town, but has no idea how she get there. Local cop fiends her and she tells him she missed train- she saw it leave, and he tells her the train hasn’t run for decades. He takes her to town and everything is slightly off- the people haven’t aged and the car is antique.

Nothing has happened yet. It better pick up soon.
