Good but I feel like more should have happened in the plot by now...

So far, it's setting up to be a pretty basic cut and paste mystery. Characters with past traumas that continue to affect their everyday living and breathing. The mysterious trauma causing the character to rethink their career path that I'm sure we'll find out is just what they were born to do. We can't forget the addition of a romantic partner that picks the worst time to get emotionally demanding and pouty.

Enjoying this read so far, it seems to fall into most abuse/escape/fight books & movies but I have faith in Chevy Stevens that there will be more to it than the norm.

This is the second Virgil and Everette book written posthumously & Mr. Parker's estate should revoke the rights allowing others to write Virgil and Everette. No one else seems to be able to evoke the nuance nor the feel of the characters as Mr. Parker created them. I'm disappointed, again. Virgil & Everette are no longer themselves, not even a shadow of themselves anymore.

A friend recommended this to me, I said "I'm not into YA" she said "It's really, really good"
I have to say I disagree. The story is simple, very simple. Boy finds dragon egg and turns into a Gary Sue. With a low IQ. There's also a lot of travel by horse that would be hard to do in a Humvee and unlimited gas. Foreshadowing is not finessed but smacks you between the eyes like a boulder.

So far,entertaining and fast paced. I like it so far.

Also on by page 171 we've been educated and reminded all about everyone's prejudice about polyamory and Anita being a 'girl with a badge' --- really? can we go one book, ONE, without the lecture of how all men are pigs about women having multiple partners and authority? It's repetitive and downright annoying. It's also been pretty heavy handed with the zealots and Anita's views on religion. Where is the story?!?

So far I'm disappointed. Nathaniel tells us on page 21 Anita, who is 5'3" tall also slim and athletic, has triple E cup size breasts. What the hell? This is ridiculous! It is inconceivable that a woman with that size breasts can draw a gun quickly or conveniently from a shoulder holster with those size breasts. I should know, being a DDD myself, it would be a hindrance even with paranormal speed.
