My ex-husband is a fucking cliche.

This is not a good book, but I got about a quarter of the way through it on a road trip with younger daughter, and this was the audiobook she picked to pass the time, and now I feel compelled to finish it.

So far, it's not the worst YA romantasy I've ever read, I think? But I will say that the parts I enjoy best are when other characters insult Mare for absolutely no real reason.

Ok, UNBELIEVABLY refreshing to have a main character act like a little bitch for a huge portion of their neophytism, and have a supporting character say *checks text for precise quote* "You're being a little bitch ... ", then proceed to give them the business.

I'm not sure if the implication is that the staff only needs gibberish to do whatever it does, it of speaking a foreign language constitutes "esoteric gibberish". Imma give him the benefit of the doubt and assume the former, but the fact that it's ambiguous enough to suggest the latter is in itself poor writing.

I'm making a lot of complaints, but one thing Eames gets right is how casually and un-heteronormatively gay Moog is. Nobody makes a big deal out of it or calls it out as GAY LOVE. It's just an everyday relationship.
