i think this is the 1st time i've been so let down by a book i was excited for i actually paused to look at reviews & spoiled the rest of it trying to see if it ever improves. might DNF. i like the love the author puts into mundane, slow moments, and i hate to call the 1st half 'boring,' but it has been. i'd hoped the end would 'get crazy' to justify it & it sounds like it will, but in the worst way it possibly could

One of these days I will learn to not start books at night bc I will get invested and read several more chapters in denial that I need to go to bed 😂 "oh kindle says I'm 37% in at 11pm that's do-able right" like nah bitch go to bed 🤡

this book delivered in every way i hoped it would. the entire cast is fantastic. loved the new characters, loved seeing where the returning ones ended up. there are some scenes that stabbed me so hard with the way they were written they are still bouncing around my head like a screensaver. and dear god that ending was absolutely fucking *devastating* holy shit what a place to stop. when is book three i NEED it

this series is making me feral and the fact that this is the last one for now fills me with sadness ;_; i wish i wouldn't have binged them so hard, i wouldn't have if i knew there was going to be so many more books

bruh i've binged this in like. a day and a half. the start was...oof, rough, but i've been unable to put it down now. first time reading a romance with a transmasc main character since being out myself, and i feel like it has rattled so many screws loose in my brain and made me feel things i cant put to words. so many things i could blubber out idk.

i now see why everyone was super into this series. i would have been so, so feral about this years ago. nowadays all i can say was this was a delight to read & as someone who has read holly black's stuff since high school, the improvement in her writing was huge in this vs the tithe book. cardan was my kind of blorbo through and through.

late to reading this, but getting to it finally. surprised i enjoyed it more than i thought i would, especially coming from re-reading the tithe books which i hadnt read since i was a teenager. the improvement in her writing is pretty noticeable. i can see why people were super into this at the time. i bet a younger me would've been feral about this book lmao. curious to see where the rest of the books go from here.

The pacing is so much better in this one, really enjoying it so far

god these books are so hard to get through sometimes and resist skimming lmao but i'm actually invested in the world / characters, so alas, i persevere...
