Lillian is really leaning in to her madness now.

The thing about Lillian is that she's studied people and human behavior patterns enough to know what people do and what she can expect others to attempt with her. But she's still just a sick b!tch. I'm thinking that the next time I want to read about a PDI, I should go straight for the greats: Gone Girl, Patricia Highsmith, even Cathy in East of Eden. This psycho lite isn't cutting it for me. No pun intended.

Lillian remains a hot mess. I can't imagine how this will end.

If you're looking for a protagonist you can't like, this character is the one. All I know is that someone or something had better grow by the end of this story, or all of this buildup is for nothing.

I’m halfway in now so hopefully something more than abundant snark will happen soon. The boyfriend is dead and almost buried and Lillian is delusional as ever.

Oh so relatable. I'm 40 years older than the protagonist but went through some of the same things. Human nature never changes. It's much funnier now tho.

In my desperation to finish this brick, I'm using all the tricks and tips I can devise. I see the GR page count is 40 pages more than the actual text of the book, so I am adding 40 pages to my "Currently on" page count. A mind game, I know. But this book is endless. This guy's writing style is even wordier than Wilkie Collins, another writer who didn't know when to just end the damn sentence and move on.

I'm going to start skimming because I can't stand it anymore. At the 650 page mark there begins to be more dialogue and less wall to wall narrative. Bring it on. Nothing but my own personal tenacity has kept me from giving up this book. In future, if a book was serialized, or it's over 600 pages and it isn't by Donna Tartt I'm listening to the audio or better yet watching the movie on PBS. I am tortured.

Reiterating I will never ever ever read a book this long again.

Anyway Roberta is in trouble and Clyde is taking chances to help her out of this jam.

So Roberta returns to her family home for Christmas, where a loving family is very happy to see her. Roberta isvery close t to her mother and "longs to tell her everything" about Clyde and the situation she currently finds herself in. But she can't. Shame and fear have overcome roberta. All because she's been sleeping with clyde. Now he's interested in sondra and given roberta the cold shoulder.
