Margaret keeps calling Ivan “unsuitable”, like as if it were the 19th century? He seems pretty averagely normal to me? Maybe nicer and more thoughtful that the average? If anything she’s too provincial.

I love this series and overall think the writing is high quality, BUT! 😅 I don’t fully understand why Vis, a teenage boy, is always soooo confident about what he thinks is going on. At this point whenever he thinks: THEY want/did THAT because REASON! I pretty much assume that we’re being set up for the opposite, which can get a little annoying. Just keep him in the moment!

I expected Lucy to be antagonistic, given her position as suspected murderer, but for someone who’s not a drunk or a nihilist, she’s oddly rude to everyone? I’d almost allow that it’s just the voice acting style, but it’s def not.

I don’t know what I was expecting? 😅 it is breathtakingly patriotic, maybe that will change as things progress? (Doubtful)

Whoops! Apparently I am accidentally re-reading this one 😅. This time as an audiobook though, so…. Maybe it will still be 3 stars? I don’t remember the plot AT ALL, which I think is fair given that I read it over 9 years ago.
