To say that the second half is difficult to follow is a gross understatement 😓 so so so many questions that we are just blowing right past. It’s like a totally different book.

Lots of great writing in this; of my very few quibbles, I don’t understand 21 year olds teasing each other with the words “teachers pet” so frequently… i genuinely cannot imagine it.

Oh.... i see. This is a lot more video-game centric and 'bro culture' centric than i was expecting.

I've been meaning to say, I can confidently claim that nearly every average book I've read that has been written in the last 5 years uses the words "skitter" "keen" or "purchase" (as in, her thoughts skittered, her heart keened, her feet scrambled for purchase, etc...).

What is this? We need a little more diverse vocabulary in contemporary literature. I cringe every time I read these words now, truly.

This book is very much up its own ass 😆 Every possible pop culture reference, everyone is so hot and gorgeous and hip, no one ever has a hangover.

I was already excited to find out that Danny McBride wrote a book, but it made me GIDDY to learn that the audiobook is read by him and a star-studded cast 😭. There is basically no chance this will get anything but 5 stars from me 😅

I guess the root of it is that the 3 main characters (parents and child) all suffer from PTSD, mood disorders, and extreme emotional disregulation.

I realized that I find it difficult to read protagonist children who are not just obstinate or immature but actually cruel. I guess I just find it hard to believe that a child, especially someone pre-pubescent, could be unrelentingly cruel. But I may just be singularly naïve!

I randomly bought this at an antique mall for a 9 year old boy who is obsessed with fishing… have to read it myself first before I gift it to make sure it’s age appropriate 😅😵‍💫

Why does every MC have to be SO CERTAIN in all their assumptions, why can’t there be suspicion and ambiguity.

How do I know that a man wrote this? Because it’s impossible that an accomplished baker like Joyce wouldn’t understand why a wedding cake is expensive. Maybe I shouldn’t torture myself with another Osman book lol
