I've been meaning to say, I can confidently claim that nearly every average book I've read that has been written in the last 5 years uses the words "skitter" "keen" or "purchase" (as in, her thoughts skittered, her heart keened, her feet scrambled for purchase, etc...).

What is this? We need a little more diverse vocabulary in contemporary literature. I cringe every time I read these words now, truly.
