Cliché and cheesy- Everything is telling me how "dark, blackened and stormy" these characters are without any actual descriptives to show it. "Storming into rooms" and describing things as "evil" while a 23 year old man (albeit homeless) can't manage to wash dishes? He uses half of a bottle of dish soap and continues to let the sink run even though it is overflowing? Super disappointing.

I hate it when a character has barely/uncontrolled rage🙄 Why are we slamming doors that rattle the hinges? Constantly making fists? Stalking across rooms and choking people out? It doesn't make an MC seem tough, just slightly unhinged and unreliable.

DNF- Too cliche and cheesy. What a disappointment. There is not depth to the characters or the plot, just some criminals who have bad tempers- they manage to break glass doors with a kick, smash keyboards in half with their fists and shoot up stores with no regard for who's inside. The sex reads like a dudebro giving a play by play.

So this is my second book by this author and unfortunately, probably my last. It's definitely a "me" thing, but I can't stand when characters are written to have known each other forever, when it has only been days or weeks- "how long have you wanted to do that?" "Since the moment I laid eyes on you." They met like days ago. I'm also hoping this book stays more in line with the crime plot than the other one did.

Dnf- I really wanted to love this, but I started skimming at 25%. The lack of world building and their feelings and connection. I feel like I'm reading a first draft. Plots and character outlines being hashed out, not a complete story.

Dnf- I hate when attraction and a connection are established immediately based on "dicks twitching" and an mc who "trusts no one" but "feels an undeniable connection and trust but don't understand why."

DNF 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️ So you're the king, but assume this other random shifter in the mountains...your mountains is benign. So you check him out (and make sure to mention you want his cock), and within minutes your cock is "throbbing and tenting your track pants" and his heat is undeniable. Super dissapointing.

Dnf- too much "heaven" and "hell." The verbiage has declined to where it feels like I'm reading a high school essay written with the help of chat gtp. Oh well...the first few books were entertaining but between the aforementioned issues and listening to the full cast? Nope.

Honestly I'm bored....I've already put this down 3 times and I'm about to start skimming a bit to see if it picks up. For all of the great reviews I read, I was expecting to be more engaged.

Nope. I just can't, I am so disappointed. I really enjoyed the previous book, but this one has every description written as a simile or metaphor mixed alternating with one liners amd clichés.
I was excited for these two to get together, but I can't even skim without cringing and rolling my eyes.

So...we're in the thick of a rescue (fire and paramedic, woman in the ambulance) and Reece decides that now is the time to ask if they're ever going to be more than just f*cking???? REALLY??? And the one liners? This may be too cheesy for me🤦🏼‍♀️

Dnf- I am genuinely surprised and disappointed in the lack of relationship building between these two. How have we gone from "I can't stand him, he's the worst roommate ever" to having penetrative sex days later??? Sure, Gus has been sober, but only for a few DAYS and they have barely touched on why and how he's doing. They have had one real conversation about their families/background and so now it's all good??

SPOILER- I'm annoyed. 5 pages ago Cam asks Shelby to move in with him when the house projects are further along. They both agree that people usually date before they get married....but now Cam is lamenting what his life will look like after they get divorced? FFS- I understand building tension, but this is ridiculous.The "I don't know if I can trust my feelings or his feelings" feels like just adding to word count.

Nope- DNF at 4%. I can't do more than sit here shaking my head while trying to leave notes for myself. Too much imagry- the psuedo description of the beating, the broken vase, escaping, the overwhelming heat, the daisies again, the bridge, deciding to jump off to join the daisy petals but a high school sweetheart saves them? In less than 1 chapter? No.

Oh my goodness, I forgot how adorable Ryan is❤️❤️❤️

DNF- I'm just not feeling these two :( Maybe another time. I am not enjoying how Blake jumps between being a somewhat nervous "new kid" (who I initially thought was a teen from the description, a 27 year old man is surprising) and uncomfortably pushy. I don't know anything or get any sense of what Damo is like, other than his building attraction to men and his squirrely situation at home.

Dnf- I think this series may have ran oys course for me...Brooks' behavior towards Tillian is douchy and I had to remind myself what I was reading. Maybe another time.

Dnf- I think I'm just not in the mood for third person, and the characters from book one are already annoying.

That's what I'm wondering...I have loved every book in this series, but aside from the "miscommunication" trope, the only one more frustrating is the "Ignoring the obvious" trope- how are we supposed to buy that these two didn't realize they were chatting eachother up the first time?? FFS.

🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️ In the span of 2 (ish) chapters, we went from a well -paced storyline to full speed ahead/eye rolls. The over the top emotional release (see obligatory tear falling) might be the nail in a dnf coffin if these two don't reign it in a bit.

Dnf-Maybe another time. I don't care for the "we're elite but managed to break standard protocol in public." I love this author, so maybe I'll try again in the future.

I'm just not enjoying this, despite being excited for it. The whole "Desi can't have a crush on me" storyline is ridiculous, every other thought Desi has is about sex (annoying considering he wasn't set up to be that vapid in the last books) and Trip's "I feel like it's disrespectful to mom" mindset is childish and frustrating. After reading some reviews, it seems like it only gets worse. Time of DNF 17%
