Finding it very funny that all 1 star reviews are griping about the truths stated about the church in this book.

Bren is possibly the most annoying main character I've suffered through in a long time.

Last year, I really hated doing the Popsugar Challege because I was hamfisting books I wanted to read into it instead of just reading whatever came my way. Some of my most poorly rated books from last year were only read because they fit that challenge. But, I did slide in by the skin of my teeth! So I'm going to try again and see what happens.

Okay, I'm going to admit it. The only reason I've kept up through this book is because I was stuck in a boring situation and had nothing else to keep me entertained. The two Straight People have decided to acknowledge that they're Man and Wo-Man, in a Motor Vehicle together. And being both Straight People and Man and Wo-Man, they've decided they're attracted to one another.

I cannot believe how fast I'm burning through this book

You know, I really need to quit reading YA, because the interactions between characters are so inane. Like literally since Ellis hit the scene it's been Pearl going on and on about how attractive he is. I GET IT! MOVE ON!

You know, I'm so annoyed that Pearl and Ellis are immedietly loadstones for one another. I wish authors knew about... subtlety.

I tried to read the Shining, and 2 pages in, King spends an entire paragraph describing someone picking up a piece of paper and putting it into a drawer. I can't fuckin do this.

Doctor describes a dead child's mouth as gynecological. Wish I were surprised.

It's really really funny to me that the author went from singing Miley Cyrus's praises to admitting that woc have far more difficult than white women's.

WOW I wish this author would shut the fuck up about Miley. Miley does not need our saving. She's a racist. I went and checked when this had been published-- just last year! Miley's been racist. I'm gonna see if the author is white and won't be surprised if she is.

I really don't know why the narrator needs to go on and on about how "interesting" girls are. I'm only sticking around because I've read the other reviews that say there's a twist in the middle.

The author tends to make apologies for abusive parents, which I've accepted up until now as Forward's method of CYA. This is an older book. But, I cannot accept the pedophilia apologism in the incest section. And I'm probably about to put the book down.

So at one instance the author says "abusers were often abused themselves" which is bullshit. And then later on amends this to "actually abuse victims rarely become abusers." So like??

I had to stop at Carol's story because it was so similar to mine. Actually throughout this book I've been doing a compare and contrast with old memories. Carol's struggle with her father insisting that she stunk is just like my mom.
