I had to stop at Carol's story because it was so similar to mine. Actually throughout this book I've been doing a compare and contrast with old memories. Carol's struggle with her father insisting that she stunk is just like my mom.

LMAO "A disproportionate number of incest victims, particularly women, allow themselves to become overweight as adults. The weight serves two important purposes for the victim: (1) she imagines it will keep men away from her, and (2) the body mass creates a false illusion of strength and power."

Wow this is such bullshit: "Father-son incest is far more common than most people realize. Such fathers usually appear to be heterosexual, but they are probably driven by strong homosexual impulses." Oh yeah us scary gays are just one marriage away from being child molesters! Go fuck yourself

The author tends to make apologies for abusive parents, which I've accepted up until now as Forward's method of CYA. This is an older book. But, I cannot accept the pedophilia apologism in the incest section. And I'm probably about to put the book down.

So at one instance the author says "abusers were often abused themselves" which is bullshit. And then later on amends this to "actually abuse victims rarely become abusers." So like??

I feel like a lot of these stories are from very wealthy people. On one hand I think this points to a fundamental problem with the one-generational family and child rearing in Western society. On the other hand I don't care how sad a multimillionaire is.
