I'm new to the cozy genre, is it normal to start with a burning city?

But then we were on an island where it was getting cozy until a wild redhead appeared. Victoria, is that you? Did you leave Twilight to stalk a librarian instead?

Such a peculiar book. At this point I must admit I actually sympathize with the antagonist...

I'm so fucking tired of books full of violence against women done in horrible and humiliating detail on screen while men get dignity.

So far we have:
- Two dead sisters
- A sexually assaulted love interest
- Another assault of a girl, who's probably the next love interest and we couldn't possibly learn about her strong will in any other way than to watch how bad a beating she could suffer before screaming.

Did I just finish watching Shadow and Bone and jumped straight here? Hell yeah, I did. Give me more of the crows <3

Way more emotional than I expected. I get it, the author isn't just atheist, he is anti-theist. He picked the worst and most extreme examples. He also spends a chapter on how religion causes wars as if there would be world peace without them. It seems the book is meant to reinforce the belief that religion is poison for those who already agree.

Somewhere along the way the author forgot the book was supposed to be about philosophy...

This supposed history of western philosophy has an awful lot of the author's personal opinion and isn't the unbiased report I was hoping for. More importantly, I have issues with the accuracy of certain claims Russell made. It makes me doubt all information that I'm unfamiliar with.

It's a good series in an interesting world, but a little more showing instead of telling would have been nice.... I'm getting tired of reading dialogue after dialogue that seems to be the main source of world-building and moving the plot.

I can't believe how boring this is, I'm continuing solely out of stubbornness... But if something interesting doesn't happen soon I may reconsider exactly how stubborn I am and skip to the last few chapters instead. The only character I care about happens to be the local god o.O

Such a slow read, the least interesting of the trilogy apparently unless there's some amazing plot twist ahead.

The continent evokes associations with slavic culture, which I find very interesting. Dead gods and a conquered former super power is certainly an intriguing combination.

I was under the impression this was supposed to be dark and epic, yet the author spends way too long on girls 'flowering', being promised and seeing boys' "thingies". This isn't exactly the kind of thing I want to read about in fantasy. Or at all...

It's very disturbing how Marx keep popping up every other page. His ideas ruined every society they touched, sociology should condemn instead of condone them. Yet it proudly claims Marx as one of its forefathers - disgraceful and disgusting.
