I keep getting confused about who is who and where they are. On earth, on the ship, a random character placed for one scene? Those transitions could be far better.

The first 1/3 was interesting. Now, it's getting bogged down in tech specs and politics. Zzzzzzz....

Why is this one a snooze fest? And longer than usual?

This series is getting ever more pleasant and quirky to read. I love having a new one for my version of the weekend.

Set in 2025. Written in 1993. I read it 15 years ago, but it didn’t seem as "current." The government is basically owned by the wealthy. Many are homeless. And now, the government is taking away the minimum wage to be able to "give the homeless jobs" and pay them whatever they want. Sounds like the next scheme of the current powers that be in the real 2025. * sigh *

Omg. This is the most boring book ever. I don't need to read every second of a dinner party in excruciating detail.

This year, I'm finally doing Dracula Daily, reading the story as it unfolds in dated diary entries and letters through free emails from Dracula Daily on Substack. It started May 3rd and ends in November. So, it's going to be a slow read. It's not too late to catch up and get started. All the cool kids are doing it. ;) https://draculadaily.substack.com/about

Well, I guess I'm back on GoodReads. Storygraph is fine, but it's just not as easy to access my past ingo, and it's far less social. It has potential, but it's just not there yet. Here, I have an unbroken reading record that goes back years and years if I want to look something up.

Well, it looks like I might be migrating over to Storygraph because nobody seems to be interacting here anymore, and it has more bells and whistles. I'm cherrycicada there if you end up moving over.

If this weren't a book club read, I'd abandon ship. It's so boring that my mind keeps wandering. Nothing is happening. Bleh.

Okay, so the reality is what I guessed (so far), but I'm still marveling at how the author kept my brain spinning with second-guessing what was really happening for so long.

I keep thinking I know where this is going, and the writer keeps throwing out clues, but they don't quite add up. Or do they? Agh. I've never felt so brainf***ed by a book before. It seems straightforward on the surface but maybe not but maybe it is but maybe it's not.

This is how you write a book from different points of view. Dang. Stellar.

I think my like of this book is starting to wane as the author kills off more and more characters, especially young children (at least 4 so far) and most of the characters I've really liked. With over 40% of the book left to go, everyone's gonna be dead by the end. I wouldn't be surprised if it ends in a huge monsoon that just kills everyone left.

I really doubt grandma is using her iPad in a car for navigation. There are ways a person might do it, but probably not grandma. These things keep on pulling me out of Kin's otherwise great stories.

I know he's a master at writing, but King's little mistakes are kind of hilarious. Living in Maine, he assumes wearing a jacket or windbreaker in the middle of a Kansas July would be normal. He also calls Elsa from Frozen "Elsa Oldsburg," as if anyone calls her that. Plus, he has a little kid say "radical," when no kid has used that slang since the '80s. Who does he get to edit? Although the quirks are fun.

It's been a while since I felt like I was reading "literature." Yes, it's 724 pages, but I'm immersed enough in this world to want it to be that long. It makes me want to visit India again, but this India with these characters.

I hate when my book club chooses WWII books. I hate reading about pure evil characters. I also hate when characters make stupid, sentimental choices that end up threatening their lives in WWII while Jewish. However, this book did pick up at the halfway point, and I had to make myself abandon it to go to sleep, so it is good. But ugh. I just don't like to think about people who are inherently bad.
