The opening to this book is absolutely beautiful. He actually talks a lot about religion/spirituality/life in a lovely way and I thought 'god, people paint this book as 18th century penthouse forum but it's actually wonderful'. And then I read on. And it got weird.
I'm still enjoying it though, it is so interesting to read about the 18th century in such a casually told way, and I do love the writing style.

Mr Sad Guy reminds me so much of la maladie de la mort and atomised which does not fill me with confidence.

I find this slow going but literally so beautiful and some parts are actually really funny (but the dude first falls in love with fermina when she's 13 and he's 17 so.. must we..)

books like this almost always falls flat when they're from the perspective of the Evil Person but joe is legitimately scary and horrifying SOMEBODY HELP HE FEELS REAL

i hope the fact that i relate so deeply to joe/his experience with beck falling out of love with him means that kepnes wrote it to be universally relatable and not that I'm a latent psycho..

I felt so cheesy buying this (a whole 2.99 of my life!!) but honestly it's good, in the same vaguely trashy way the show is good. so, some excellent passages but joe pls stop talking about your dick, is my review so far

It's oddly refreshing to have a bunch of characters that were intended to be loathsome

also interesting how Lenina is much the same as every other woman in that society. Bernard is just projecting onto her the woman he imagines, and that's what's driving her to think slightly differently
and finally.. I know it's meant to be through the eyes of racists but reading the descriptions of native americans is truly awful
