All the typos and grammar mistakes of the ebook aside, this is an insufferable amount of quotes from and endless blah-blah about only a very specific kind of rather extreme high-achiever (only-I-can-do-this-job/I can't say no/must save the world) burnout cases. I'm half way through, found very little of use to me personally and am pretty bored-out. The second half is supposed to be better, we'll see.

Having read Man"s World I somehow expected more substance and less porn. The graphic content is pretty well written though, fairly creative regarding the various scenarios, and everyone is ever so delightfully polite ...

Magnificent read. Totally delivered.

I feel like reading something funny next.

So far it seems as though all the one-star-rants entirely missed the point of this book.

"... the most unusual ingredient in any apothecary's store was 'mummy', ground human flesh taken (at least in theory) from plundered Egyptian tombs. [...] The best mummy had 'a reinous harden'd, black shining surface' [...] European bodies might be substituted, but it was important that the corpse [...] had not succumbed to disease [...] therefore, in practice, the principal source was bodies of executed criminals."

Hmmmm ... mixed bag. 3.5 for now. I'll sleep on it.

Started out promisingly, quite engaging in parts, but towards the end increasingly dragging and the writing sometimes half-baked and in need of some editing. At this point I mainly want to finish it, but it's slow going.

The shaman gimmick made me pick this up and I'm not disappointed. So far it's equally humorous and deep which is right up my alley.

Actually, after taking a break due to lack of time I realize I'm not enticed to listen on. This book does have its moments and it is well written, but the slow pace, lack of real story-line and descriptions of trivialities make me rather sleepy and impatient. Also: I still dislike the cover though I guess, with some effort, one could come up with some kind of clever interpretation.

Pretty good, a little slow at times.

I'm as far in as the Amazon Kindle preview allows me. So far: right down my alley - detailed historical context written in a marvellously engaging way, to preface the shipwreck is exactly what I was looking for. Eagerly awaiting the paper book's arrival to arrive to continue. Just can't make friends with the idea of getting an E-Reader, even if it makes content available stat.

400 year old account of Batavia shipwreck and mutiny by the Commander of the East Indiaman. Self-evidently not elaborate prose but a fascinating document of its time.

This is about way more than a forgotten scandal. Very readable but daunting, enraging and depressing at the same time.
