Struggling to finish this second book.

One struggles to reconcile Levi's supposed humanity with his complete disregard for animals

The first book was obviously necessary. The second... well, this one I think can be evaluated and well, I do not think it is very good

The translation is a bit awkward

Very funny but can be hard going. I have to look up so many words...

Engaging to read and some truly great lines, yeah but not particularly illuminating in any way so far. Hoping it gets better. I expected to read about Henry Miller style anecdotes but all Zweig has delivered so far is Wikipedia esque summaries of everything. And much of it is honestly quite clichéd and naive.

That whole Duane Marvy bit was very funny

I've just read a chapter where for the first time, I truly have absolutely no idea what's going on, what the characters are saying or what the prose is talking about. It's just endless images. It seems to me Pirate is in some kind of exile ship?

The Greta/Bianca shit is pretty gross

Everything is batshit insane inside the Zone. When you are coked up, tall buildings look like king Kong, josef stalin looks like a lost woman from Harvard and dead bodies are bread and jesus chirst. Will Slothrop manage to steal the package, or nah?

I think i like this book best when the story actually moves forward.

So. Many. Beautiful. Images. Ahhh reminds me of high school winters but the imagery is not so sentimental... though it does rely a bit on nostalgia.

Needlessly drawn out and boring

E Unibus Pluram is the one of the profound essays I've ever read. I'd already known it's crux before I started reading it but turns out I'd barely scratched the surface. It is deeper in its scope than I'd expected. The essay is in a way kind of an attack against all readers, gamers, anyone that uses consumption as their identity i.e. all of internet. Really long review of this when I finish the book.
