If you’re going to use a language you don’t know, at least use it correctly. Don’t use plural when you need to use singular and don’t use the feminine when you need to use the masculine because they mean two completely different things 😩. This is one of the things that really bugs me about this book. A little more research or running it by a competent sensitivity reader could have really elevated it.

I can’t say it’s gripping but Balogh certainly plants a picture of a very naive young woman and a selfish, self obsessed man.

Still annoyed at the fatphobic stiff. More annoyed that the author seems to think no one recognises a person if they lose weight. If I didn’t know better I’d think this book was written by a man. I’d expect a woman to know better.

So far I’ve gathered that the author hates her body, thinks fat shaming is ok and that no one fat can ever find love, and has no idea how bra sizes work. Not a great start, if I’m honest.

I’m on Day 3 of reading this book & I’m struggling to get through it. Usually I’d finish a book this length in under a day but I just can’t get on with the style of writing and the story feels haphazard. I’m fighting to finish this book but I doubt I’ll continue the series.

It’s disappointing as this book came highly recommended by others, maybe they were able to connect with the writing style more.

Giving up on this for now. I keep finding other things to do and am just not eager to read it. I’ll keep it in my currently reading for a bit and see if I manage to go back to it after a few other books.

I think it’s likely a decent book but just not for me.

Soldiering through but it’s tough going. A lot of it just seems out of period. It’s set in 1890 and the writing just doesn’t seem to jive with that. It’s like a modern story that’s been forced into Victorian times without much consideration.

But... I may be having a hard time with it because it’s boring me. I don’t know.

Day 4 of attempting this book and I’m only 36% of the way through. I usually finish books within 24 hours of starting them but this one is a drag for some reason. I’m not sure if I should keep trying or just give it up as a bad job.

And now he’s trying to convince her he did nothing wrong because he thought she was enjoying it. This H has a lot of redeeming to do if he’s ever to be a H!

Off to a bad start. The H is literally assaulting the h in her sleep. How was this ever supposed to be ok?

So far, a really "feel good" book that's kept me smiling and laughing for the past hour or so.

I love all the characters & wish LK would make a series for the rest of Evie & Sebastian's children.

I just can't seem to get into this book. I don't know if is the stilted/formal writing (actually seems to be fitting for the period) that makes it difficult for me to connect to the story or just that I'm in too much pain. Will put it aside for now and try to finish it at another time methinks.
