Oh god oh god it really is that serious

The writing: hideous.
I have to think that the only reason this isn't for kids is because of the concubine of it all. Everything is explained repeatedly. A man stabs someone and our narrator tells us Oh no, he was a terrible man. The stakes are told to us over and over in case we forgot in the last two pages. Painted by numbers of writing.

This is really great in so many ways, but the couple of inaccurracies are making me question the rest of it. It feels like he wrote some sections when he was a bit tired.

Its time to reread something beautiful and life affirming because holy shit. Let's all go to art school and create, make new friends, eat when we are hungry, and share the load.

English kings trapped in a tragedy loop, falling in love with manipulative men, giving said men all their power and wealth, and getting usurped and murdered by their wives/cousins. Edward II, Richard II, you really should have been at the club. You would have had a smashing time.

the snail's pace at which I am reading this book bears no correlation to my enjoyment of it. This is such a good book, I'm just really distracted lately.

I'm re-reading this for the first time since 2014. It's great because I get to understand the foreshadowing now and feel like ripping my whole skin off.
