Anthony Bourdain's essay brought back some vivid memories of working in a kitchen. Who among us (former restaurant employees) hasn't worked with a Dog Boy? Or had a manager who just kind of does whatever? Or been afraid of being decked by a customer?

I think the portrayal of Van Helsing in the recent media had me expecting something very different from a kindly older Dutch doctor/scholar.

Jonathan Harker: so the estate is old and she's uh, she's what we call in English a 'fixer upper'. But you know, on the plus side, you can't see the asylum when you're on the property itself!

Dracula: perfect. I love old decrepit places! There's even a place for my bones. I can't wait to see it :)

I know he's the villain but I'm with Dracula on this.

Would you believe I've never read all of Dracula? I'm excited to do it now!

Things I did not expect to say so far: Crovan sucks but he can keep being weird on screen if he wants.

There's a whole chapter on Guy Fieri! This is a good book.

So far I'm LOVING this. It's absolutely everything I wanted in a fantasy story and I'm hooked!!

This book has be almost in tears and I'm barely past the halfway mark.

I just started book 2 and so far I really like this. So far, I've found the description of the technology they're creating to be very realistic. Sadly, the only exception is the original concept of a Circle account. But thankfully Eggers doesn't focus too much on that.
