Another Tyler treasure! I'm digging the first person narrative. I'm also a big fan of the dead person who wanders through the story as one of the protagonists.

I feel I'm getting smarter just from reading the scientific articles in this book!

Justine and Duncan, married cousins. I've got a very bad sinking feeling in the pit of my stomache about their story! They're opposites pulling apart, yet they're so drawn together. Basically, they're like a slinky that's about to break.

New favorite opening! I'm loving the main character, Barnaby. Could this be a new/old favorite?

These are very hard to read. Survivor of rape and molestation poetry.

This is the unedited version of "What We Talk About When We Talk About Love." The first 2 stories are pretty similar, but "Where Is Everyone?" is way more detailed, and has way more background on character motivation, than the renamed "Mr. Coffee and Mr. Fixit." I've read that the editor cut more than 50% from Carver's original manuscript, which helped to earn the author's rep as a minimalist.

I'm eating this one up for breakfast, lunch, and dinner!

Working on the second reading of this gem from Tyler! Saw the movie with William Hurt, Geena Davis and Kathleen Turner. Both are treasures.

General reaction-WTH??? I mean that in a good way. The stories are throwing me off-balance.

Getting used to the old- fashioned voice narrating. Always sounds ominous, like something dreadful is on the brink of occurring.

Marvelous, evil stuff. Implied meaning.

This started out so sad, then a little hope, now so sad again! Yet there are funny parts, too...
