Almost two hundred pages in and first mention of Ransom. Fortunately things are starting to pick up over all--I'm still not sure what to make of this book. Given how long I've wanted to read this series, I'm disappointed in myself for feeling so underwhelmed as I race towards the end.

I wanted to read this because the pre-World War One Yishuv is an unusual and fascinating setting. As of so far, I have several alarm bells going off that this is philosemitic Christian literature in disguise and that the protagonist will convert to Christianity, but I found vague spoilers in the reviews that seem to indicate that's not the case. I'm still not sure how I feel about this book.
