This is what I expect from a cozy fantasy. Not sure if it is or not, but a very comfortable adventure of new beginnings, family and history. This js my first Nora Roberts, so far so good. The characters are the star of the show.

Finally, some actual action. The fmc is alright, Hal is just boring and now we get Fox. Someone who actually has presence.

So far so good. The beginning was good, the middle so far is a bit slow, but I'm still enjoying it so far. Intriguing enough magic system that is fun to learn about.

Riven has finally arrived! But he feels too soft now. I enjoy men who worship their women, but Riven is just...sitting on the sidelines being emotional support, lacking the shadow strength he had in the first book. I love that we get more of Killian and found family vibes are a comfort.

So far so good. Love a book opener where somebody gets punched in the face. No mmc though at the 20% mark which is an odd choice considering the last book he was pretty essential to the plot.

I'm LOVING this. Finally, earned yearning. I was intrigued by the characters and the world. Nothing too outstanding, but they had personality. I also love how the distrust is still fresh and alive throughout the journey but seeing the ice thaw past the half way point of the book makes me so happy. You need time to build a relationship.

"A rich bear?"
When the dark is dangerous and possibly forced sleep. Quite interesting so far.

The actual story has kicked off and I am enjoying myself on the journey. Just enough nuggets of interesting things that keep me turning the page. I have no investment in her first love interest outside of his name and the other is just always mad for some reason but is still the more intriguing of the two. Love the side characters.

I do so want to know why one of the mmc hates the fmc so much, I imagine he knows something and hates it 😆

Now we are in the meat of things. The fmcs internal thoughts still annoy me, but we have more characters involved now and I'm interested in the direwolves. Im also interested in why the recruits have to follow strict training and traditions.

Maybe 1sr person isn't for me anymore? The writing feels clunky, I'm not feeling any emotion, just being told through the writing, but not even that. Its like the emotions are described through snarky comments. "What makes these people so special that they get access to all this? Fuck them" I get that its to make us dislike these characters for their privilege, but the thoughts are very modern which doesnt fit.

I started this book anticipating that I would absolutely hate it because it was so well loved. I was pleasantly surprised at how quick I was taken by the characters and how they worked within the politics of the world. The audiobook it beautiful. The respect from the characters and their interactions are actually pretty realistic.

I dont get the hype around this book. It may be the setting or just that the characters feel dull outside of the mmc and gargoyle. Nothing super surprising, not sure what the main drive is after the missing sisters mystery is resolved. Or maybe im not a fan of characters taking smoking. Might be a me thing.

Ok, missing persons adventure, cool. Mmc is fun. Not thrilled with the fmc but she's alright. Gargoyle sidekick is a nice addition.
