Finally, Digby meets someone from the family! Kind of thought it would be the person who was also a medical doctor.

The 1st book in the series was fun and intriguing but was light on socio-political commentary- though it was there. This one so far places that kind of content front and center, which makes it very interesting to me as well as entertaining sci-fi.

was listening to the audio book earlier and switched to a book format because I wanted to be able to navigate the text more effectively.

finished section 1 narrated by Benji. I knew it would not make much sense. Planning to go back to review Benji's account after reading the other 3 narratives and having a better grounding to interpret what Benji was sharing/experiencing.

I'm a little more than 1/3 through; at Ch 15. Its good - no doubt - but wow its tough. The abject poverty, the lost lives, the pain and need of nearly every character. Most of the book thus far has been focussed on Agnes, Shuggie's mother, and his older siblings. And you fear for Shuggie and his ability to thrive as he ages in this callous, stark, brutal world.

As expected, this is a very good book. But I can tell I am not likely to get it finished before its due back at the library. As with "the New Jim Crow", I can handle only so many pages at a time, despite how wonderfully its written.

So very good. But, wow, I can only read 20 to 25 pages before I have to take a break. Emotionally, not an easy read. Challenging but so very good. So very very sad and so very very good.

Reading this as part of a discussion/book group focussing on Anti-racism this summer. We've had some very good conversations thus far.

Well, this is a switch-up for Nesbo. This is turning out to be a retelling of Shakespeare's MacBeth, Nesbo-style. Kind of fun to watch all the elements appear, not anywhere near as gruesome as one typically expects, but...its MacBeth, so its still plenty dark!
