A quick read to be sure. Here we have a cantankerous Frank, slapstick style expressing his opinions about politics, authors and people. I like it, but maybe not as much as the other three?

The voice of Frank Bascombe has changed a bit. This Frank has an almost slapstick delivery. Was the younger Frank different? I will have to reread the Sportswriter...

Wow, the chapter "pictures" presents a powerful one. Jack London was his own unique voice. Might have to use this for my next short story club.

What great read. I was daunted but the chapters are totally manageable if dense. Diamond does a great job of summarizing the contents of each chapter thus far in the last paragraph.

to be born in the city is useful for only one thing: to have known, almost instinctively, what today, with endless fine distinctions, everyone is beginning to claim:that the dream of unlimited progress is in reality a nightmare of savagery and death.

Preach.

There are so many things to like about this book series. Too many cliches come to mind! Honest. Astute. Comforting. Every page is all these.
