I actually saw, or rather heard, a do mar warehouse in person production of a theatrical adaptation of this unique dystopian novel that was unlike any play I had attended before. It interested me in the story and I immediately reserved the book from the library

I would say this is similar to Caleb Carr’s alienist in that it’s about a psychologist is pre WWII Chéchia. That’s where the comparison pretty much ends. It is very much in a made up world (to my knowledge) and is more like a psychological thriller than period mystery.

The book is intriguing with its many details but I’m more than halfway through and I don’t see much of a story. It’s supposed to be like “Gone Girl”

I love the richly intertwined fictional and historical story come out in the alienist books. I was extremely happy when they came out with a tv series a few years ago. That first season was pretty close to the original book. As I picked up the second book, I was again looking forward to the show. But this time it differs so much it’s difficult for me to follow the shows story. This is why I prefer the book.

I remember going to the theater to see the film adaptation and having to leave early. Apparently started the book a while ago as I opened it and I had already read 12% according to kindle. Rewatching film and reading at same time—both excellent!

I picked up this book from the library store as I was charged with compiling a quarantine/summer reading list for the prospect park zoo, where I volunteer part time. It is mostly dry and green peace-y but it does have some interesting ideas about the disappearance of animals and the effect it has on the environment and humanity. I enjoy that aspect

I am finding this to be an amazing story although a bit close to home that the two main characters beat my name and my brother’s, who Also happens to be a defense attorney. But it is really superb storytelling and grabs you and drags you into the story from the first page. I decided I wanted to read this because I watched the first 15 minutes of the tv show, found out it was a book first and I must read it first!

With the new Rambo coming out, I decided to read the original. I also revisited the first movie. The movie is very very lame in comparison, with the book being a thousand percent more descriptive and places you directly in that world. Love it!

at first i couldn't tell if the book was good or pretentious... but after giving it a short read i have decided i really like it! you just have to take the narrator's voice as he is-a writer writing a book and/or taking notes for his book-and all the sarcasm that goes along with it that i mistook at first for pretentiousness. great read so far!

This happens to be a very well thought out murder mystery albeit it loses points for grammatical errors in the writing.

Given that this is a printed material, and a rather good story at that so far even though I’m not far in at all. I mention the printed part because this is the first printed book I have had no trouble reading in a very long time.

I picked this up because Anthony burgess said he hated a clockwork orange and wanted it erased from cultural history. He said he preferred his other books. I wanted to read this book to see what he meant. I don't like it.

I've only just started the book but I love it. So well written. I had forgotten I had put it on digital hold. I love this passage: and apparently I can't paste a screenshot. Basically it's 1933 in the Loire valley and one girl says to another "lord knows, the Germans are no match for us". Love the thinking of that character before the chaos really started. Shows the European mindset at the time.
