Wow, nearly 30% in and I just can't do it. So boring, and don't feel connected to or caring about the couple. I'm tapping out.

Did not think I would ever DNF an Elizabeth Strout book, but I can't get into this. May partly be down to me, I started reading this sporadically while in the hospital, and can't focus that well. But I also think it's just not landing with me.

Shelley is starting The Mistletoe Mystery (Molly the Maid, #2.5)
Going to DNF this one. Seemed like an enjoyable holiday short story, and the narration in the audiobook is very good. I'm about halfway through, and it's become too tedious to bear. Even though it's already short, it should've been about 1/3rd the length to make this work. The author had a small idea for a small, sweet story, then just kept dragging it on.

Was excited to read this because I've loved HBO since I was a kid. Unfortunately, the book is a snoozefest, so I'm giving up.

Shelley is starting Valley of the Dolls
Yikes, is this book dated. It's heavy on the cringe, but it's a glimpse into what was thought shocking more than 50 years ago. And I want to see what becomes of Anne! Will she find love? A real purpose? A personality? Of course, she's the most beautiful, wooed by the richest & handsomest men on the planet. Cheesy clichés abound, but there may be something here...

I did not expect the Buddy Hackett stories (apparently, he was an a-hole). Here's one:
"I remember, there was a stand-up comedy competition at the Improv, and he was a judge. At the end, he went onstage and was supposed to read the ballots of the different judges and say who the winner was. Instead, he tore up all the ballots and said, 'I don’t think any of you guys are funny.'"

I'm going in! Not a fan of hers, but heard this book is a great pick for celebrity memoir that gives juicy details. Will it be worth walking through Jessica Simpson's thoughts?

Here I was chasing my past, trying to piece things together but perhaps the real courage was in simply accepting the things that happen and learning to live with them.

Shelley is 26% done with Jane Austen at Home: A Biography
"The problem was that she was too original. Her novels would be too unusual – indeed too ‘novel’ – for publishers to realise at first just how good they were."

The above about Jane Austen reminds me of Emily Dickinson, who had a poem published in a newspaper in her lifetime by a man who changed it and made it dramatically, obviously worse (but thought he was improving it).
