"You can make believe it happens,
Or pretend that something's true.
You can wish or hope or contemplate
A thing you'd like to do.
But until you start to do it,
You will never see it through
'Cause the make-believe pretending
Just won't do it for you.

You've got to do it. Every little bit..."

"But magic doesn't work with learning, not with anything really worthwhile."

I like this quote.

"Love isn't a state of perfect caring. It is an active noun like struggle. To love someone is to strive to accept that person exactly the way he or she is, right here and now."

Finished volume 1. Didn't really want to put it down until I finished it.

This book is hard to continue to want to read.

I can see why the tv series are so different.

"I don't feel damaged, just like I'm missing something. I know it's buried deep within myself. A speck of light. One molecule that shimmers like a shard of glass in the sand. And if I figure out how to grow that light, maybe I'll be happy."

What????

I am starting to agree with one review where this feels like fanfiction.

For a series that I thought was getting better as it progressed, it seems it has went downhill on this so far.

I am a bit annoyed at how Elena seems to...have lost ability to talk well or process thoughts. With the way the previous book ended, Elena seemed to be just fine.

Just feels like an excuse to somehow create more for this series.

I liked how the author did point out the flaws Elena had.

I was also surprised what ended up happening to Elena. Didn't quite think that was coming.

Ah. Communication is needed so much here. And Elena was obviously not thinking clearly about the other family members being endangered at first.

I wonder if Damon knew or didn't know....

Trying to not spoil too much with these reading updates.

Elena should have just stayed at her house instead.

: Sigh :

Almost there. I can finish this.

Don't get why at this point Elena hasn't thought to tell Stefan about this creeper. Then he could connect the dots and story would proceed quicker.

I am telling myself I can do this and get through this book.

Finding myself wondering "Why am I reading this?"

Maybe this was something I could enjoy when I was younger (although I sort of doubt that).

Do not quite care for Elena. Hopefully she will mature as the series progress.

I wanted to check out the book series after I had watched some of the televised version with my nieces years ago. From what I remember, television version Elena's personality is different.
