If the Mondor-Eagen library thinks they’re getting this book within two weeks they have another thing coming because, to misquote that guy, this book is denser than a bowl of oatmeal.

That aside, the bit about the clocks was riveting. Time was not systematically measured, and then it was!

The rate at which i am reading this book (incredibly slowly) does in no way reflect how interesting it is (utterly fascinating).

This feels like what I imagine microdosing infinite jest in nonfiction form would be like. Or perhaps its just giving wider context for the world in which infinite jest is set.

Utterly fascinating.

I really fear I should have been an english major. Theres literally no reason I should find this book as riveting as I do. Alas

This is one of those books which I would like to read a book about.

Tripped and fell in a small bookstore in New Hampshire and ended up having bought this. Crazy how that always happens. Anyways, I believe I’m enamored.

Just had the ending of Anna Karenina spoiled by Mr Towles on page 296! For what reason????

We’re getting deep into the weeds regarding the foundations of fascism (its bad!) and the works of a filmmaker/nazi sympathizer.

New religion just dropped! God is a woman and her name is Susan Sontag.

Aka I finished the essay “The Third World of Women” and it was magnificent and incisive.

Its bleak and getting bleaker.

Just finished the first essay, The Double Standard of Aging, and Sontag is out here spitting absolute facts. Will be reading this essay, if not the entire book, annually because she literally doesn’t miss.

Audiobooking this, and so far I’ve hated and been disgusted by everything I’ve learned.
