Pretty interesting look into historical modes of version control, which is exactly what I was looking for

This book is bizarre: it’s like a breathless review of how problematic Chinese entrepreneurship is (lots of copies, minimal innovation, win-at-all-cost competition) with no insight into how these can be problematic, whilst simultaneously dumping on SV for similar cultural issues. It just seems to be missing much introspection. The views in Chinese tech culture are fascinating however

Harrowing but amazing reading

Actually enjoying this more than I expected to

Mfw I leave my book in the baby’s room after he’s asleep and no other book I can read looks as enticing

Honestly one of the worst books of the year. It’s also fascinating that the author portrays himself as a wife-hating psychopath whose sole redeeming quality is that he was a Green Bean with 19SFG. Also amazing that the sole interesting SOF character is a Navy SEAL. The pacing is decent, but otherwise intensely boring social commentary masquerading as a disaster story.

Virgin Jeff Kirkham: curses, mean to wife, talks about being a Green Bean all the time, no filial piety, survives with tons and tons of capital outlay.
Chad Peter Heller: nice guy, helps other people’s children, survives on like… a stick and some hardtack.

I can’t imagine saying to my wife, whom I have previously stated I hate when she attempts to “dominate” me by such horrors as “asking for my help around the house,” that I won’t help her parents out because of the “tactical angles.” I am a very special Green Bean, you see.
