All was going well until one character, a British doctor in Victorian London, provides measurements in centimetres. My suspension of disbelief is sorely troubled yet I shall soldier on.

Thoroughly enjoying this so far. Reinforces my core belief, something I've known for ages, that all those straight Roman roads were built on top of pre-existing Celtic routes.

Somehow missed out on this previously, notwithstanding it was published originally in 1992. Some elements were initially annoying, like how this fantasy mercenary company all have US Army rank titles. But once past that I have been intrigued by what is a very unusual approach. I started this book while on holiday last year (yes in January 2014) and have no idea where I've left the damned thing.

just loving the period feel. Sixteen books in the characters feel like part of the family; moreso even!

Intending to read these in sequence turn about with O'Brian's Aubrey-Maturin series.

Re-reading for sheer pleasure. Decided this time to try and do the whole series in sequence.

This is proving better than expected. 'Proper' literature in the mode of Joyce; keeping a dictionary handy.
