Alana is on page 200 of 303 of A Woman's Civil War: A Diary, with Reminiscences of the War, from March 1862
Fascinating first-hand account of living through the Civil War, escaping the winning Union army, only to have it find you and chase your loved ones through the mountains. Harrowing and horrible.

Alana is reading Hanging Rock Rebel
As a Hampshire County resident, I found this very interesting because I could understand the landscape he was referring to. However, place names and bridges have changed, so a map would have been great. Lt .John Blue may have been on the losing side, but the reader sympathizes with him very naturally because he comes across as a competent, reasonable person.

Alana is reading The Game of Kings (The Lymond Chronicles, #1)
Everything tied up nicely, which seemed strange for the first book in a series. There seemed to be a huge backstory that could have been a book, itself. Anyway, I enjoyed it.

"Jefferson... went to London early in 1786. As ambassador to France, Jefferson was presented at court by Adams. King George saw the author of the Declaration of Independence and turned his back on the two Americans..."

Alana is on page 390 of 585 of Les Misérables (Great illustrated classics)
The river came to his feet with the sound of a kiss. He heard the airy dialogues of the nests bidding each other good night in the elms of the Champs Elysees. A few stars, faintly piercing the pale blue of the zenith, and visible to reverie alone, produced their imperceptible little resplendencies in the immensity. Evening was unfolding over Jean Valjean's head all the caresses of the infinite.
