The little black cat appearing in the woodcuts above some of the chaoter headings was really cute! loved the anecdotes that described old-fashioned tasks and the way Maine looked and worked in the mid-20th century. I didn't love the preachy tone the author took up at the end of each chapter. Also, he mentioned sometimes that he missed his wife when she was away, but he didn't seem like a very warm "voice."
