This a cracking read

This was a slow starter but I’ve really gotten right into it today. A brilliant example of ‘show don’t tell’.

This is really good! The detail of the writing is incredible and such atmosphere.

I left this on the plane on Monday night. Just as I was getting into it. Agggghhhhhh!!!

Fuck. This is grim. I don't think I've read a book in a long while with such a bastard fuck of a protagonist with absolutely no redeeming features.

I opened this on my Kindle but turned to a hard copy of Nicci French's Friday on My Mind instead.

Honestly? It's a bit turgid and is flirting with relegation to the stalled shelf. Not, I might add, something I do lightly or frequently. Maybe it will pick up. Perseverance occasionally leads to a gem.

Really stalled on this one. Very dryly written. It's good to dip in and out of but it doesn't really capture the imagination.

Again, not much progress on this. The sadness fair seeps from the dusty pages. It's overwhelming and incomprehensible.

too be honest, I haven't got very far with this ... I'm struggling to overcome my ideological prejudice to anything written by the right wing. I will overcome this though - because I agree with the end game. I just think the accompanying book from the Indigenous perspective is more important.

I have loved this book so, so much. I have not been able to put it down.

Want to pick this one up again.

This is pretty ponderous in terms of it's writing and has been pretty slow going. I've just hit some real action now. If we could have somehow summarised the first half of the book and just started in London ... would have made for a better read. I will finish it though.

Big plans to finish this one once I clear the decks of some of the other half started/half read books that are on my bedside table and kindle.

Think I might have to start over on this one. Tried to resume progress but have forgotten the couple of chapters I've read.

This has pretty mixed reviews and I haven't approached it with any great expectations. I really set myself the task of just reading for enjoyment and getting lost in the story vs reading for the purpose of completing a reading challenge. And it's worked! This is a poor man's Nikki French. But that's okay. I'm enjoying it.
