pausing from this point and might give it another chance next time, but for now, i’d like to actually enjoy my reading and this is just not it for me. i have no concern for the predictability of the story; what does bother me is how i feel like the writing is treating me like a child. the narration feels unnecessarily overshare-y and i don’t need it

ok, so the writing’s giving UK but a lot of the language is actually giving US—a touch too woke and borderlining near too-tropey; not giving India Holton for sure

1. books in UK English (with me as a target audience) are so fascinatingly similar (tone, sentence beats, humor, movie-esque-y), i feel like i’ve been reading books from the same authors (a neutral comment, neither good not bad, unless i just uncovered which authors are ghost-writing)
2. i thought this was a children’s book but the very big cuss early on clarified it is, in fact, not

Emily Henry’s pretty consistent with her writing (style, story, characters) and not in a good way. i’m contemplating the possibility of putting her characters side-by-side and finding them with very little differences because she just writes the same thing with a different backdrop. her MCs look and sound the same to me even when she tries to tell me otherwise

+ will i fall for stoner Miles? i wonder

i like CS Lewis as a narrator. feels like a grandpa telling a bedtime story and sounds like a Disney movie narrator

i had no way of knowing Ch 8 was going to be that long and literal/practical; it was a breakdown of what each piece in the liturgy is. insightful, just didn’t expect the chapter to be so much

true to his gender, the book has much information to offer in each chapter, new knowledge to acquire, but less practical advice on how to solve or go about the problems being presented
