Had to go back and read the last part of Book One to realize the inevitable. Great book

Such a great author. Read her other book a while ago.

Ahhh the great story teller. Started a little slow but in the groove now. Great,naturally, descriptions of place and people.

Laugh out loud funny but bittersweet. IYKYK

This guy is just brilliant. If you haven’t read him and you want a good laugh-do.

Really well done historical novel about whites, creoles, free blacks and blacks beginning before the civil war.

This book is fantastic and I’m not even a gamer!

Soul baring takes lots of courage. And for such a powerful woman to feel inadequate. Major mental health issues with her husband. This is 1957 and very hush hush. The shrink was an absolute quack and she gives you all the juicy details.

Eye opening on anti semitism and the innocence of wealthy young women in the 30s. Have to add unbelievably that the depression didn’t affect her and her family

Book is good. Author is a journalist so it reads well. Dark characters and descriptions on aging that go pretty far.

Boy if this could happen but then again it really isn’t a solution

What a book!

Beginning is confusing but then we settle into a really good tale. Quite a different approach to novel writing which is refreshing

Charismatic comes to mind.

Now he’s on a political rant condemning white people. Shows weak writing.

I can’t read this any more. Who decided this guy had any talent? Sick sex and drug addled stream of consciousness be damned

Weird but hanging in there. Beat books are crazy

Crazy book. Needed a good editing. lol

Confusing at times. He doesn’t define characters well and drops a dire situation into the narrative that takes you another page to figure out. People have multiple names so you just have to keep plunging through. This is a literary book and he won’t let you forget it. Subject matter is good in that you don’t read about conflict in SA often.
