I just picked this up from my library's book sale today. Talk about the stars aligning!

How are they "in love"? I really don't get it. When did they fall in love? I don't understand....

Plot doesn't start until after the halfway point.

I'm sorry but the first chapter is poorly written. I would've made so many changes as an editor....

You know it's a fantasy when literature is a prestigious academic field and isn't on the university's chopping-block.

Bored.

The great thing about this book is not only is there a C-SPAN version but there's a 8.5 hour lo-fi beats to sleep/relax to version.

So far, the brief mention of her love-making with the farmer boy has been the most passioned and interesting part of this dull, dull world. The sex is why people like these books, so it makes sense.
I guess the mercernary in the market was interesting, setting up for something bigger. Some tidbits of world-building alongside the boring family dynamic and writing.

Nothing has happened in the first 45 minutes of this 15+ hour audiobook

What do you mean it took over half of the book for the MC to even leave the school like the description said? What do you mean the majority of the book is just descriptions and world-building? I had to listen for 3+ hours for anything to actually happen 🥲

I love how characters will just faint/drop dead, and the next sentence is like, "No one helped them. Everyone is too distracted by the pressing situation." Hahaha

3 hours in the audiobook and I feel no connection to these characters. The plot is just now moving along...

A dead body was just left in the hallway with the protagonist and prince...all of the servants and guards just disappeared to take care of other business. What???

I've been really enjoying this so far. I found it hard to believe this is the author first novel...but then, it just got really cheesy and all of the drama just happened all at once, shoehorned in. 🥲

The whole concept of "show your work" in math baffled myself and the majority of my classmates. Here, Crystal would write paragraphs explaining her thought process, which the teacher took as a slight. To me, writing it out with words is better! The best math teacher I had gave us an assignment where we explained the process in words. I loved it! For us math-hating autistics, let us WRITE!

The author gave a very broad definition of autism, overgeneralizing that we're all bottom-up processors, whereas neurotypicals are not.
