I watched the movie and lowkey hated it but the people said the book was better. And then yesterday saw this book in my neighborhood book swap library box (is there a name for that) so now I can read this book while I eat meals at my apt and probably still hate it

I’m reading this because it was recommended at ACDA a year ago but know that I have skimmed the reviews and have low expectations

Can’t a guy go a little crazy and be enclosed in a Shroud of Eternal Darkness without people going around viciously slandering his name to the good folk of London and Venice???

He’s grinding up a dead mouse into dust and eating it because he’s trying to go insane on purpose but if you ask me he’s already well on his way

EXTREMELY powerful work to have a character’s name be In The Title, but then only allude to him on occasion and then only REALLY start his journey on PAGE 215!

I truly cannot fathom where this book will take me as I am only at 21% !! Apparently the shenanigans have only just begun

Henceforth shall be calling death penalty by hanging the “sisal two-step” or “hemp fandango” (depending, of course, on what the rope is made out of)

Kind of quirky and I’m not sure where the narration is taking us yet… feels weirdly ominous for a book that is also clearly meant to be cozy

I am genuinely disturbed by the fact that Edward is allowed to kiss Bella but heaven forbid if she tries to kiss him back it’s like “too overwhelming” and she needs to “behave herself”???!!!! Hmmmmmmmmmm!!!!

First of all the “as if you could outrun me” chapter is just as incredible and absurd as the scene in the movie, second of all despite all their flaws I think Edward and Bella are actually doing a decent job of communicating often and honestly with each other. At least they have that

Edward is wearing a WHITE, SLEEVELESS shirt that is ALSO a BUTTON-DOWN… on a HIKE… and to make things WORSE, it’s totally unbuttoned so this man’s chest is OUT, and instead of being horrified by how weird that is, Bella is like “this person is too hot and godlike to ever be with a weird awkward piece of trash like me” and honestly that’s comedy writing at its finest

They are both so confused about why they’re so obsessed with each other which is fun because I’m also confused about that. Hobbyless behavior

These people are so unserious and this book would be so much better if Bella and Edward brought that unseriousness to their relationship as well instead of being intense to a deranged level

Why does she preface the book with a GENESIS QUOTE lolllll
