Alternate History. In this path the Dec 7th 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor was just a bit different than how it really went. In this one, the Japanese attack hit the fuel storage for the US Fleet. With no fuel closer than San Francisco, the Pacific ocean is wide open for the Imperial Japanese Navy. There is no battle of coral sea, New Guinea falls, and Japan lands troops on Austraial's northern shore.

The last 20% of the book is where things finally started moving, though the tedious naval gazing, Oh my feezings stuff lasted until the last 15% or so.

My recommendation, skim the whole Soulcaster storyline until the blood part is over. Stick with the Cal storyline, it takes a long while until it's not depressing (and the flashbacks can get tedious skim them if you want)

I will continue with book 2.

So far I find the story line involving Cal to be depressing, and the story line about the theft to be mostly tedious. I'm about 26 hours into the 45 hours, and the main plot line has yet to become clear.

A good adventure story about hunting the monsters that make up any horror story, with the most firepower you could get your hands on in the 1980's. Zombies, wights, ghouls, trolls, master vampires, US Senators, Fey queens, and even spiders the size of elephants.

Our hero is about to go into the Seattle sewers to take on a gang of ghouls (who crossed the line when they murdered a family, simply because they were going to have dinner with the hero).

It was an enjoyable story, that brought Doc Holiday and the Eurps to life.
