Completed Tale of Two Cities. Gorgeous. Not a great "airplane" book, though. I may need to reread this a few times to grasp everything in it.

I had to return it to the library with just two hours left, and I'll have to wait to download it again. Again, the outcome was rather predictable. I don't mind predictability. Unless I'm promised something else (like in the first book). I have to say, though, I enjoyed the first book a good bit more, which doesn't seem to be the general consensus. But I'll see how it ends.

Spoiler

I can't stop chuckling. The UN literally FRIDGED Luo's wife and son. Bahahahaha.

Still, if I were the UN. I would be very careful about causing any disillusion in the Wall-facers.

It's hard to not take this description of the "perfect woman", this shallow wilting flower, this character is thirsting after, as the author's perspective. I'm trying not to be offended and hoping we get back to the aliens soon, cause I want to strangle this character.

As a Christian I rarely get irritated by irreverence in culture. Can't expect respect out of people who hate God and His people. I don't know why certain things anger me more than others. The phrase "I am that I am" is one of those phrases that gets me angry when mis-used. It's not deliberate disrespect and mocking but it's somehow more arrogant and offensive to me. Oh well, I guess that a personal gripe.

Not going to lie... I don't know if I can do this. The story is okay. Characters typical for YA and trophy, but okay. But this SERIOUSLY needed a fact checker and the attitude towards male/female interactions is not ideal. And the unhinged bullying trope... in a assassin school? A bit much. No hate to anyone who likes it, but I'm not sure I can hold on to see if it improves.

Is it victim shaming if I say Laura is kinda bringing all this on herself? Bahahaha.

These percentages are always so depressing. It feels like I'm much closer to the end. But most of it is backmatter.

Interesting... That's one way to talk about his writing about Native Americans...

I found I've been reading ebooks faster than hardcopies lately. Enjoying this one thus far. Not quite horror. More like a paranormal thriller than the typical, theme heavy Gothic Horror I'm drawn too. But it keeps my attention and is well done. Plot is very reigned in thus far.

Honestly, most of these are more essays than short stories. Its interesting to see into Washington Irving's mind a bit more. He is very flowery, that is for sure. Still... sometimes I'm chewing at the bit to rush forward and just reread Sleepy Hollow. I still might, but I'm curious enough about Irving's thoughts on the world he inhabits to stay and keep reading.

Not particularly striking yet, nothing really grabbing me. But I'm curious to see where it goes.

Hmmm, I'm a bit worried this might be a DNF, based off the tone and how little I'm enjoying the prose. The story thus far is meandering at best. But... I might be unduly influenced by some of the reviews I looked at so I'm going to keep trying and hoping for a bit more cohesion
