This might prove to be one of the best pieces of writing I have ever come across!

Started reading it because it was on my nightstand and because I hope it’s a light quick read that can help me get out of a severe reading slump. (I don’t think it will) (I cannot believe I spent actual money on this) (Dare I say the show is colossally better, and it’s not even that great) (I swear I’m not trying to be mean)

All that has happened so far, I can make due with. I can understand a character having a terrible past. What I don’t understand, and why I can understand why many people end up putting this book down, is the incessant need to make this one character suffer so horrifically. I’m angry, but at whom?

Already gut-wrenching. I feel like this is one of those books that will tear me apart.

Finally getting back into this after months of not wanting to even remind myself that I began it. I don’t know why my impression before was that it was tedious to read. Perhaps the unconventional format threw me off at first, but now as I go through each essay (poem? idk), I find Ellena’s writing pungent, at times humorous, and just goddamn relatable.

I just know that this won't live up to the previous book. It's dragging, and what's up with Ari making clearly romantic remarks about and to Cassandra but framing them as platonic?

This is called Aristotle and Dante, but there's barely any Dante so far

Why did the author feel the need to recapitulate halfway through the book? It is definitely anticlimactic.

By the end of this book, I’ll have most paragraphs underlined.

I had said that I will take my time reading this since I wanted to grasp all information well, but I haven’t really been actually giving it the time so I am going to try to give it more attention. Even though the language is pretty simple (not elementary. the translation is fantastic), I find myself reading a paragraph more than once to genuinely understand what is written.

An interesting and fun way to read. A poem a day gives you something to dwell on at night.

Ok. So like, nothing happened yet but I just could tell who the killer is. I /had/ to check online and I was right. What a fucking cliché! The only reason I am even going to continue reading this is because a) I would like to know how things will unravel (perhaps there will be redemption in that) and b) halsey is going to be part of the adaptation. And a girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do.

I am nowhere near done with this book but I already have most paragraphs highlighted. Incredible! AND to think that Eltahawy would mention going to a Halsey concert and chant “I am a fucking hurricane!”

Really want to start reading I would leave me if I could by Halsey, but I feel like I am not ready for how open and raw her writing will be in this.

I am just adding this here to hold me accountable. Studying French for three years has not benefited me in any way. This might. We’ll see.

“That knowledge in turn clarifies a truth that is unintelligible if we define the self as simply autonomous: it shows why all of us—not only perpetrators of harms—all of us are responsible both for rebuilding destroyed selves and worlds and preventing their destruction in the first place.”
