This is a "keep a tissue box handy" sort of book.

I really appreciate how this world-building has every culture thinking just about every other culture is the barbarian culture. We love some real-world inspiration.

Part of me wishes I'd saved the audiobook for a long car ride. This is a very fun book.

I'd read the main Malazan series from June 2018 to December 2020 and it's one of my tippitty-top series. It meant the world to me and it was my main squeeze series for 2.5 years. It took my mind off the issues of the world. I got this book as soon as it released in July 2021 but it's taken me until the world's returned to shittiness to dunk myself back into Malazan. I've missed it.

I'm tired, grandpa.

I want to point out that I'm doing this as a buddy read because it's supposed to be hilariously bad.

This book is very much a thriller and it's like if Dark Matter by Blake Crouch stumbled onto the weird end of the world sets in Evangelion (minus giant monsters), and it all happened in West Virginia. Man, I want to keep going but I don't want to keep going, but I'm going to keep going.
