Part of me wishes I'd saved the audiobook for a long car ride. This is a very fun book.

I'd read the main Malazan series from June 2018 to December 2020 and it's one of my tippitty-top series. It meant the world to me and it was my main squeeze series for 2.5 years. It took my mind off the issues of the world. I got this book as soon as it released in July 2021 but it's taken me until the world's returned to shittiness to dunk myself back into Malazan. I've missed it.

I'm tired, grandpa.

I want to point out that I'm doing this as a buddy read because it's supposed to be hilariously bad.

This book is very much a thriller and it's like if Dark Matter by Blake Crouch stumbled onto the weird end of the world sets in Evangelion (minus giant monsters), and it all happened in West Virginia. Man, I want to keep going but I don't want to keep going, but I'm going to keep going.

That prologue could've been a standalone short story and I'd give it 5 stars

Not the first time I've considered calling in sick in the morning and spending the rest of the day reading, won't be the last. I don't want to give up that PTO quite yet. I'm going to need some coffee when the sun's back up.

Honestly feels like it'd be ripe for Studio Ghibli adaptation
